Schools in southwest suburban Tinley Park are on a "soft lockdown" Wednesday afternoon following an early morning home invasion that prompted a massive manhunt in the area.

The Chicago Tribune reports that a boy called police around 4 a.m. and said someone was in his home in the 9100 block of Basswood Drive with a gun. The caller hid in the living room and stayed on the phone with police. The Tribune reports:

When police arrived, they saw a suspect assaulting a male resident through a window. At least four people are believed to live in the home. As police entered the residence, the suspects broke through windows and doors to escape. One male was caught as he tried to enter a vehicle in the area, Tinley Park Commander Rick Bruno said.
Two residents of the home were taken to Palos Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police took another suspect into custody about 6:15 a.m. near 183rd Street and Lenore Lane.

All four suspects are described as male African-Americans, the Tribune reports. Two are described as 5-foot-7 with a medium build and short dark hair. Both were wearing long black T-shirts, black vests and pants. One wore a Yankees baseball hat and the other was carrying a gun.

Area schools are on "soft lockdown," meaning students will not be let out of buildings until the end of the school day.

A motive in the home invasion was not known and the search for other suspects continued Wednesday afternoon.
That is creepy stuff, but it is not atypical. All we can do is hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
