The other night I went to the local Jewel Osco -it's only about 2 blocks from my condo and I HATE going shopping during the day or after work because it's just my luck that I have 5 things and I'm stuck behind some massively overweight middle aged woman with 81 items and a bag full of coupons.
Anyway, I went in, bought my things, walked out to the car, and went home.
That's it.
BUT....
what if it wasn't?
what if someone chose me to attack while I was walking to my car, freezing my ass off, with bags in both hands?
What if it was YOU walking to your car, not thinking about self defense at all?
What would you do?
Whatever you would do would have to be SIMPLE, DIRECT and above all, EFFECTIVE.
We as good, normal, no-screws-loose people aren't preoccupied with violence or harming another person. Which is PRECISELY what your predators are preoccupied with. See my point?
By the time you process what has happened, they're already in attack mode-their mind has been made up, they know exactly what they're doing....and you are still thinking, "What the hell is going on?" In other words, you're already two or three steps behind.
How can you avoid this? Your training must rely on simple motions, it must address scenarios, and it must have an element of realism. It must be easily learned and practiced, and above all it must be able to get the job done. It must be able to work for anyone and everyone, regardless of size, strength or ability level. It must realistically address the reality of a violent encounter.
Check out the White Collar Warrior Self Protection Skills Home Study Course-it contains all this and then some...and it's only 7 dollars per volume.

Awareness is KEY in all that you do...
The first, and most important precept of self defense is this: be AWARE of your surroundings at all times. This fgoes far beyond looking in your backseat before you get in your car, or remembering to lock the screen door after you get home from the grocery store. What bit means, at a root level, is trusting your instincts. Never let anyone try and convince you otherwise. there's a half-joking saying among serious enthusiasts of personal protection studies, "Only the paranoid survive." Well, it wouldn't be funny if it wasn't true. Tis sad, though, that the more people herd like sheep to catch the latest episode of (ugh) TMZ or the more people hang on every word of Tiger Woods, latest mistress, Ellen DeGeneres or Oprah, the more people become un aware of the very real increase in violent crime being perpetrated everywhere.
One of the best instructional resources out there as to effective techniques and strategies for self defense, the White Collar Warrior Self Protection Skills Home Study Course, can be found here:
